What is zinc?

Zinc is an essential trace mineral with the chemical symbol Zn. The body uses it in normal processes including protein and DNA production. A varied diet provides zinc through different foods.

Our ingredient library brings together the forms found across the Crystal Health & Beauty range. A simple mineral-and-water preparation and a complex fermented formula can both name zinc, while having very different compositions and directions.

Zinc in everyday foods

Meat, seafood, beans, nuts and whole grains can contribute zinc to the diet. The amount varies by food and portion. Plant foods also contain phytates, which can reduce zinc absorption.

Think in terms of variety across meals: a handful of nuts, beans in a stew or seeds scattered over a bowl each brings its own mix of ingredients and texture. A photograph of a food does not indicate a measured mineral content.

Understanding the different zinc forms

“Zinc” identifies the mineral, but the rest of the ingredient name matters. Zinc chloride, zinc gluconate and elemental zinc are different descriptions, not interchangeable product names.

Our Colloidal Zinc listing describes elemental zinc dispersed in steam-distilled water. Kids Probiotic and Sustain name zinc chloride within much broader ingredient lists. The liposomal blend and Neuro Night descriptions name zinc without specifying its exact form.

“Liposomal” describes a formulation approach; it does not, by itself, tell you the zinc amount or establish how one finished product compares with another. Use the current ingredient and nutrient panels when comparing formulas.

Concentration, bottle size and serving amounts

Three numbers can appear on a mineral liquid, and each answers a different question. PPM means parts per million and describes concentration. Millilitres describe the volume of liquid. Milligrams per serving describe the quantity of a nutrient in a defined serving.

The 20 PPM on our colloidal listing is not a direction to take 20 mg. Likewise, a 1 litre bottle contains more liquid than a 500 ml bottle, but a larger bottle does not make each millilitre more concentrated.

The current listing directs you to the bottle label for use. If you need the precise zinc amount in a labelled serving, contact us for the current product information. Avoid calculating a personal serving from a concentration figure alone.

Where you will find zinc in our range

These five listings explicitly name zinc. Each link takes you to the complete product, where you can check the other ingredients and current options.

Colloidal Zinc

Kids probiotic

A fermented liquid culture whose ingredient list includes zinc chloride and citric acid among its herbs and minerals. Its inclusion here identifies an ingredient; it does not establish a meaningful zinc amount per serving.

Sustain probiotic

A fermented liquid culture combining live microbes, herbs, juices and minerals, including zinc chloride. The current description does not quantify its zinc contribution per serving.

An ingredient mention does not establish the amount per serving. Naturally occurring trace minerals in foods are not listed here as dedicated zinc formulas.

Choosing and caring for your formula

Start with the whole formula and its intended use. Check the zinc form where declared, serving directions, other ingredients and any age or suitability information. Do not transfer directions between a mineral liquid, fermented culture and multi-ingredient supplement.

For Colloidal Zinc, keep the amber glass bottle securely closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Do not refrigerate or freeze it. Other products may have different storage requirements, so use their own labels.

Check for overlapping zinc if you use several supplements. Excess zinc over time can lower copper levels, and zinc can interact with some medicines. Ask a pharmacist or qualified clinician about suitability if you take medication.

Retain the original label and batch details. If a serving amount or ingredient is unclear, ask us before use rather than relying on directions from another product.

Zinc questions answered

What is zinc?

Zinc is an essential trace mineral, known by the chemical symbol Zn. It occurs in foods and is used in a variety of ingredient forms.

What is in CHB Colloidal Zinc?

The listing names zinc and steam-distilled water, with a stated concentration of 20 PPM and no added salts or preservatives.

Does 20 PPM mean 20 mg per serving?

No. PPM describes concentration, while milligrams per serving describe the amount in a specified serving. Follow the product label for serving information.

Is colloidal zinc the same as zinc chloride?

No. Our colloidal listing describes elemental zinc dispersed in water. Zinc chloride is a zinc compound named in some of our fermented formulas.

Which products in the range list zinc?

Colloidal Zinc, Liposomal Advanced Immune Support, Neuro Night, Kids Probiotic and Sustain Probiotic all name zinc in their current descriptions or ingredient lists.

How should I store Colloidal Zinc?

Keep the bottle securely closed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. The product listing says not to refrigerate or freeze it. Keep it out of reach of children.

For complete ingredients, allergens, suitability and directions, read the current product label. A guide to one ingredient does not describe every possible effect of the finished preparation.
