Frankincense
Boswellia resin oil
Discover frankincense’s warm, resinous character in our Gold Face Cream and Mineral Bath Soak, with a closer look at each botanical blend.
What is frankincense?
Frankincense is associated with the aromatic resin of Boswellia trees. The essential oil made from that resin is used in fragrance and botanical skincare. You may also encounter the name olibanum when exploring this ingredient.
In the Crystal range, frankincense contributes warm, resinous notes to two different blends: our Gold Face Cream and Mineral Bath Soak. It gives each a distinctive aromatic quality while working alongside its other scented ingredients.

Resin and essential oil: understanding the names
The pale golden pieces often shown in pictures of frankincense are resin tears. They illustrate the material associated with the ingredient, but they are not the same as a finished essential oil or skincare product.
This distinction matters when reading a label. Our products name frankincense essential oil; they are not jars of loose resin. The Mineral Bath Soak lists Boswellia Carterii alongside its frankincense essential oil. The Gold Face Cream lists frankincense essential oil without specifying a species on its current product page.
Use the information for the individual product rather than assuming every frankincense ingredient has the same origin, processing method or composition. The familiar common name is a helpful starting point, while the full ingredient declaration provides more detail.

One ingredient, two aromatic combinations
In the Gold Face Cream, frankincense is paired with neroli. The cream’s scent combines neroli’s fresh floral-citrus character with frankincense’s warmer resinous notes. This aromatic pairing sits within a rich blend of botanical butters and oils.
In the Mineral Bath Soak, frankincense appears alongside bright bergamot and floral jasmine absolute. The three ingredients create the soak’s botanical fragrance. It is a different scent experience from the face cream, even though frankincense is common to both.
If you enjoy exploring scent, this is a useful way to compare products: look at the whole combination rather than choosing by one ingredient alone. A face cream used in a small amount and a prepared bath soak used in warm water also have different settings and purposes.

Looking beyond the scent
Frankincense is one part of each finished formula. In the cream, murumuru butter, kokum butter and cacao butter contribute richness and body. Meadowfoam seed oil, jojoba, rosehip and black seed oil form the botanical oil blend.
The bath soak has a mineral base instead. Its salts, sodium bicarbonate and clay are distinct from the oil-and-butter blend of the face cream. Sharing a fragrant ingredient does not make these products interchangeable.
For everyday use, choose the format that matches what you want to do: moisturise your face with the cream, or prepare a bath with the soak. The product’s purpose, texture and directions are as useful as its fragrance description when deciding what suits your routine.
Using and storing your products
For the Gold Face Cream, massage a small amount over clean, dry facial skin, avoiding the eyes. Begin sparingly and add more if needed. Warm a little between clean fingertips first if you prefer a softer texture. Keep the jar cool and away from direct sunlight or excessive heat.
For the Mineral Bath Soak, follow the suggested amount on the tub; the current product directions specify approximately 150g in a warm bath. Use a scale when you want to measure that amount accurately. Keep the container tightly closed and dry, and take care because the bath may become slippery.
Use both products as supplied rather than adding extra essential oil. Check their complete ingredient lists if your skin reacts to scented products, avoid irritated or broken skin when using the soak, and stop use if irritation occurs. Both products are for external use.
Frankincense: your questions answered
What is frankincense essential oil?
Frankincense essential oil is an aromatic oil derived from Boswellia tree resin. In our products it contributes a warm, resinous scent within a finished blend.
Which Crystal products contain frankincense?
Our Colloidal Gold Face Cream and Mineral Bath Soak both list frankincense essential oil. The cream pairs it with neroli; the bath soak pairs it with bergamot and jasmine absolute.
Is frankincense resin the same as essential oil?
No. Resin is the original aromatic material from the tree, while essential oil is a preparation made from it. Our featured products list frankincense essential oil, rather than loose resin tears.
Does the bath soak smell the same as the face cream?
No. They share frankincense, but use different aromatic combinations. The cream has neroli and frankincense; the soak combines bergamot, jasmine absolute and frankincense.
Can I add extra essential oil to these products?
Use each product as supplied. Adding concentrated essential oil changes its formulation. Do not apply undiluted essential oil directly to skin or add it neat to bathwater.
How should I store products containing frankincense?
Follow the individual label. Keep the face cream cool and away from direct sunlight or excessive heat. Close the bath-soak tub tightly and keep it in a cool, dry place away from moisture.
