The 12 Tissue Salts: Names & the Schüssler Tradition

Tissue salts, also called cell salts, are part of a tradition associated with Wilhelm Schüssler.

Combination 12 tissue salts

Tissue salts, also called cell salts, are part of a tradition associated with Wilhelm Schüssler. The system uses twelve named mineral preparations in highly diluted forms. This guide introduces the names and explains how to read them without confusing a traditional preparation with a nutritional mineral supplement.

The twelve familiar names

  1. Calc Fluor
  2. Calc Phos
  3. Calc Sulph
  4. Ferr Phos
  5. Kali Mur
  6. Kali Phos
  7. Kali Sulph
  8. Mag Phos
  9. Nat Mur
  10. Nat Phos
  11. Nat Sulph
  12. Silica
Different labels may spell out the names or use these traditional abbreviations. Check the individual product rather than relying on a number, because naming and numbering conventions can vary.

Understanding the traditional framework

Practitioners associate these salts with different patterns of wellbeing. Those associations explain the system’s vocabulary; they do not demonstrate that a preparation treats infection, repairs a fracture or corrects a nutrient deficiency. A symptom does not reliably identify which salt a person needs.

Dilution and nutrient amounts are different

The potency or dilution notation on a tissue-salt label is not the same as a statement of elemental mineral content in milligrams. Ferr Phos should not be assumed to replace an iron supplement, nor Mag Phos to provide an ordinary dietary magnesium serving.

Reading the whole label

Check the name, dilution, directions and supporting ingredients. Tablets may contain lactose or sugars, which can matter to an individual’s choices. A traditional title does not mean every brand has the same formula or is suitable for every age.

A place in a personal ritual

Some people enjoy tissue salts as part of their approach to natural wellbeing. Keep a clear record of what you choose and avoid starting many preparations together. Changes in symptoms should not automatically be interpreted as confirmation of the theory.

Keeping nourishment central

A varied diet remains the foundation for obtaining essential nutrients. Diagnosed deficiencies need an appropriate plan, and persistent or severe symptoms need assessment. The traditional system can be explored without replacing those practical needs.
